Ossett Town Ladies
A Right Old Ding Dong!
Town used both subs in the first 15 mins, went one behind but turned round winning 3-2. Second half Shipley levelled then took the lead and with 25 to go Town lost right back Sarah Law to a bone-cruncher and had to continue with only 10 (the story of their season). But they didn't give up and got the draw they at least deserved Both sides gave their all and even the spectators were left exhausted. Final Score 4-4 Patterson Player of the Match: Jody Wray (makeshift left back), closely followed by Emily Stevenson (central defence).
A lovely sunny winter's morning saw the newly formed Jaguars take to the stage in a thrilling game of football.
In goal was Alex Jolly, Scott Rankin and Kieran Stephenson in defence, midfield was Harry Graves, Jacob Nash and Lewis Wardman with Matthew Rogers and Jamie White up front for this newly formed team. Early pressure from the Jaguars saw some great running from Matthew Rogers who earned his team numerous corners. Jamie White also had a great effort that just went wide. Defence was outstanding and the midfield battled the whole game. The Jaguars pressure resulted in a free kick in the Altofts half which Scott Rankin confidently stepped up to take and a great effort from him saw an Altofts defender block a super shot. Half-time came and the score somehow was still 0-0. The Jaguars came out in the second half and proudly put on some lovely flowing football, with some great attacking attempts throughout the team. The defence stood firm and some great tackles from Kieran Stephenson and Jacob Nash saw the team grow in spirit and confidence. A great solo run from Matthew Rogers from the half way line, saw him beat the Altofts defence and finish with a superb shot to put the Jaguars 1-0 in front, which they thouroughly deserved. The game opened up then and some great football played by both teams really made this a great game to watch. However, there was to be no further goals and the Jaguars fully deserved their 1-0 victory. Man of the Match went to the improving Jacob Nash who never stopped running and trying for the team. Great first win Jaguars, you should all be very proud.
Panthers vs Altofts (Away)
A bright and sunny morning saw a good game of football played. Oliver Spencer was in goal for the Panthers, with Jacob Merricks, Lewis Wardman and Alex Jolly in defence. Midfield was Thomas Wright, Christian Galdamez and Ewan Broadbent with Lewis Stephens and Ben Fishman up front. The Panthers came out and attacked well from the kick off with some lovely football in midfield and some great running from up front with Lewis Stephens and Ben Fishman eagerly wanting the ball. Early Panthers pressure saw a great run from Ben Fishman, who head down attacked the Altofts defence and finished superbly to put the Panthers 1-0 up. Further pressure saw shots by Christian Galdamez and Lewis Stephens saved well. Oliver Spencer made some fine saves for the Panthers, but continued home pressure from Altofts saw a quick succession of goals making the half time score 3-1 to Altofts. The Panthers battled well in the second half and were unlucky not to get any more goals but Altofts attacked well again second half and added a further two goals to make the final score 5-1. The Panthers played well as a team and with a bit more concentration in the second half the final score could have been a lot closer. Man of the Match award went to Ben Fishman who defended well for his team when under pressure and also tried his best on the break to further the Panthers lead.
A lovely warm winter's morning saw a cracking game between two very good and well organised sides. Ben Fishman played in goal for the Pumas and his defensive line up was Joe McDaid, William Hall and Scott Rankin who were superb at the back. In midfield saw Troy Kimmings and Oliver Spencer, with Max Wilson on the wing and Matthew Rogers up front. An early injury to Scott Rankin caused a brief stoppage to the game, but he battled on and was outstanding all game. There was some lovely flowing football played by the Pumas, with some great tactical kicks out from goalkeeper Ben Fishman to Max Wilson on the wing, which was a pleasure to watch. First half saw efforts from Oliver Spencer and Matthew Rogers were well saved by the Altofts keeper to make the half time score 0-0. The second half started and both teams came out to attack and it really was nail biting stuff. A fine corner from Troy Kimmings, which agonisingly hit the cross bar, was followed by another shot by Matthew Rogers and some great team football was played but the ball just wouldn't go in the back of the net for either sides, resulting in a final score of 0-0. The whole Pumas team played well, defended proudly and were very entertaining to watch. Man of the Match on the day went to Scott Rankin who had a solid all round game and gave everthing for his team. Well done lads.
Ossett Town Juniors Under Eights Match Reports
Howden Clough 7 - Lions 0
Connor Ryan and Sam Allen, the two Ossett Town Goalies were kept very busy today as the Lions met some predators of their own. There were times in the match when there was some good efforts on the part of individual Lions but Howden Clough were on form today. Sam Allen put in three or four goal saving dives, and outside he brought some dynamism to the creaking Lions. He was very deserving of the player of the match award in such difficult circumstances. There were some jewels from the melee:- Joseph Smith’s defensive header, the running and shooting of the effervescent Thomas McGee, Louis Allison’s tackling where he mastered three eager opponents, Liam Hitchock’s thundering shot, Sean Owram’s run on goal, denied by a great tackle and Finlay Townend’s neat one twos with Liam Finney. For the Lions this week, it will be more practising on getting the roar fine tuned, to scare off predators. Having said that, the Lions did well not to buckle. If they had, the pressure was so immense each one would have been pressed into the finest of South Walean and feline anthracite.
Ossett Town Under 10’s - Sun 04 Nov
A friendly against Tingley Athletic enabled experimental line ups for both Town games with every player playing out of their favoured positions. The Tigers played in the first match this weekend, and were 1-0 up in the first minute after strong midfield play from Tom Wilson enabled Harry Walls to finish. Strong at the back in the first half the Tigers created problems for their opponents throughout and were unfortunate not to extend their lead before the break. With Tom Wilson playing a half for the Terriers later more changes were made at the break, and the 2nd goal duly arrived. A long clearance from Adam Wilson in goal, bounced over the Tingley defence, allowing Stuart Dyson (normal goalkeeper) to run through on goal and coolly chip the advancing keeper. Tingley did grab a goal back with 5 minutes to go but the Tigers battled well to finish 2-1 winners. The ASD MotM award went to Rowan Naylor-Myers for a combatative performance in defence and central midfiled. The Terriers had an ultimately more comfortable result, although it took a wonder goal by James Bree from inside his own half to open the game up, after a tight first 10 minutes. Will Pollitt adapted to the striker role with some intelligent runs and linking in with the midfielders. Danny Hayward had an effort against a post as the Terriers dominated, and just before half-time Will latched on to a long clearance with a powerful shot, which the keeper parried, but Will followed up the rebound to make the half time score 2-0. More of the same in the 2nd half as the Terriers carried the greater threat and were always strong at the back. Tom Wilson came off the bench to finish clinically with his left foot to make it 3-0 and shortly after a powerful low cross / shot from James Bree was turned in by Will Pollitt from close range. The score finsihed 4-0, with the DJH MotM going to Will Pollitt for his 2 goals and all round performance as striker. Town will look for similar results when the teams meet again in 3 weeks time.

Ossett Town U12’s – Garforth League County Cup
The Ossett Town Management had spent the prior week drilling home the message that the Saints would be no pushover and the 11-3 stuffing they handed out to them in the pre-season friendly would be by no means a guaranteed repeat performance. Wise words indeed as the visitors turned out to be tough opposition and forced Ossett to play at somewhere their best to seal their victory. The oldest cliché in the old football book is talk of two halves, but cliché or not, this could not have described this particular game any better. The first half belonged to the Saints, no argument. They scored first and dominated a nervous and ineffective Ossett for the full half hour; only the Ossett equaliser provided the merest blip on an otherwise mediocre performance. The second half on the other hand was the absolute reverse, as Ossett took control powered their way to their victory, but more of that later. Ossett had an early warning of how the rest of the first half was going to pan out as a quick Saints break caught Ossett flat-footed and forced a good last second tackle from Ruane to clear the danger. From that point the game took on a frantic and frenetic pace which saw Town battered by the compact, organised visitors with their speed to the ball and their clinical tackling. And on 7 minutes events took a distinct turn for the worse for Ossett as Campbell was badly injured as he came out to meet a sickening collision with the Saints attack and was left prone and writhing in agony. The mutterings from the touch of “Calamity Campbell” went silent as, rather than being stretchered off which had seemed to be the most likely outcome, he walked back to retake his position in goals, albeit with a grimace on his face and nursing his right arm. The condition of Campbell, and the obvious pain he was in, made the next couple of minutes both incredible and inevitable. Firstly, sensing blood, the Saints ramped up the attack and forced two cracking saves from Campbell before finally, going one up from a high, speculative shot which Campbell got a hand to but just fell inside the post. 0-1. Ossett were now on the back foot, unsettled by the goal and chaotically defending. Instead of playing out of trouble, desperate and aimless hoofing did nothing but allow the visitors to maintain and increase the pressure. Skirmishes into the Saints half were few and far between, but on 24 minutes on such flurry found Turfrey with the ball in space on the right. Instinctively he cut in and then expertly poked the equaliser with his trusted left foot from the right hand edge of the six yard box across the goal and in at the far post. 1-1.
To the end of the half, the Saints kept the pressure on and right on 30 minutes Ossett were given a big let off from one the many quality corners the defence had had to deal with; this time the ball went a yard over the bar from close range when it could quite easily have been a yard under. And so the half finished even, and the Ossett must have felt fortunate to be level given the huge gap both in performance and possession. With adrenalin wearing off, and the pain becoming too great, Campbell was unable to continue into the second half and was replaced by Taylor between the posts. Regardless of this change at the back, Ossett came out and played like a different team. Nervousness was replaced by confidence. Random swings by careful passing. Standing off by challenges and strong tackling. With the exception of one early attack which forced a good save from Taylor, the visitors were outplayed and for the most part hemmed into their own half. Fox and White proved an effective paring down the right and created several chances, whilst from the left Turfrey was creating his own havoc. Slowly and surely Ossett improved as the half went on. The Town back four became solid, quickly neutralising any hint of trouble and opening up play for their team-mates. Down the middle Cundall and Daniel were now playing at a higher tempo and with more determination; winning tackles time and time again and exchanging some good passes. And all over the place was Wright, as effective at tackling back as at going forward and creating chances. And it was Wright eventually got Ossett’s winner with a brave and focused strike at the end of an excellent work from Daniel who on winning the ball deep in midfield and creating some space for a long range shot. Although his shot was blocked the ball spun out right to the path of Wright as he followed the attack in. The strike was impressive not only in its power and accuracy, but in the sheer determined, focused concentration it took both to hit it instantly and ignore the Saints legs and bodies as they lunged to block at the point of impact. Wright could have pulled out of the shot. But he didn’t. And the ball whizzed through the defence and into the impossible spot on the near post which was the only place it could have gone in. 2-1. Ossett were on top and deservedly so. As the game came to a close Ossett came close to increasing their lead further, first from Mountain and then twice from Turfrey. Mountain looked impressive today, and used the space he had created for himself out of defence to hit a high, long range shot which bounced over the Saints keeper but disappointingly just over the bar also. Close but no cigar! A game of two halves then. Average in the first half but dominant in the second. A good team performance with some good build up and attacking play in the second half. Town man of the match went to Sheen today and deservedly so; justified for not stop effort and some great tackles. The Saints are a good team made it hard for Ossett today, and knowing that makes the victory, and the one step nearer the cup, all the more valuable.
CHARLES RICE JUNIOR FOOTBALL LEAGUE U16’s INVITATION CUP 2nd ROUND
Ossett Town Reds will need to win a replay if they are to progress into the quarterfinals of the Invitation Cup, following a 1 – 1 draw at Bretton Juniors from the Challenge Division. In a closely contested first half Bretton probably had the better of the chances and Ossett goalkeeper Carl Widdrington was called upon to make two or three excellent saves before Ross Hardaker finally scored to give Ossett the lead after 25 minutes, heading in from a Michael Liversidge long throw in. Five minutes later Hardaker almost extended Ossett’s lead when he volleyed a deep Carl Thompson cross against the outside of the Bretton post. After 36 minutes Bretton forced an equalizer which came from a throw in, as the ball came into the Ossett penalty area, the Bretton player was first to it and looped a shot across goal and into the net off the inside of the post. Half Time: -

Ossett made an excellent start to the second half and almost took the lead again in the first minute. Joe Madarasi did well on the right hand side of the pitch and eventually crossed into the box, Josh Ellis’s mishit shot fell kindly for Josh Hardy who saw his first time shot rebound off the Bretton post.
Bretton again had some promising moments in the second half and almost scored after 51 minutes following an old-fashioned goalmouth scramble, which resulted in the ball being lifted just over the Ossett crossbar.
With the game heading towards extra time a final push from Ossett culminated with them striking the woodwork again when, in stoppage time, Ross Hardaker saw his attempt come back off the post, the rebound fell to Georgie Tate whose shot was closed down and blocked well by the Bretton keeper.
