Ossett Town v Bramley Phoenix

“1950s/60s Classic Films”

Tigers 3 Bramley Phoenix 1

Lloyd Rodgers surpassed Brando and moved from could have been, to, definitely is a contender. He harried after every ball and completed some of the best timed and reliable tackles since Schwartz Swiss watches were imported. He was the fulcrum in the defensive balance that included Connor Ryan, the maker of telling tackles and clearances, and Liam Taylor, the gazelle who turned defence into attack with his penetrative running.

Joseph Smith played an excellent defensive midfield game whose passing was extremely effective. He launched a ball which held up in the Bramley box allowing Liam Finney the opportunity to do a dummy run of his goal scoring shot. It was a case of dummy and now this time for real.

Bramley soon equalised despite the best efforts of the Tiger’s defence. However, up front Liam Finney and Finlay Townend put in a Butch Cassidy and Sundance kid performance as they linked up well to play some cool football. They were aided and abetted by Morgan Fletcher and Sean Owram, both of whom never stopped running. Their efforts made it difficult for Bramley to break out and they were worthy of best supporting actor performances to Butch and Sundance, or their own TV series, as Hannibal Heyes and Kid Curry. As they steamed along, running along the roof tops of speeding steam trains and blowing up safes, they also managed to feed some good ball through to help the Tigers attack.

If the Tigers were a team for all seasons then Liam Finney was its El Cid. He did everything, and could be content with being involved in all the Tigers best chances and setting up Finlay Townend’s pair of “natural born striker” goals.

Finlay was involved in one of the moves that characterised much of the Tigers performance as Liam Finney Passed to Sean Owram who found Finlay, who laid it on for Liam only for Liam to hit the side netting.

All in all the eight Tigers gave the performance of the Magnificent 7.

Player of the Match - Lloyd Rodgers Under 9’s

COLTON 0 OSSETT TOWN TERRIERS 2

The terriers travelled to Leeds to take on Colton in this Garforth league fixture.

The Terriers got into the groove straight from the first whistle and pressed towards the Colton goal.

The first goal came from a determined tackle from Jack Burton who then put Adam Finney through to score a well taken goal.

The Terriers carried on pressing and were unlucky not to extend their lead through Jack Burton and Joe Etheringtin.

Colton did try to reply but were always thwarted due to good defending from Oliver Pescod, Joe Etherington, Callum Long and keeper Curtis Kaye.

The Terriers started the second half like the first with the introduction of Edward furlong, Ben Harley and Sam Hewitt into the fray.

It was furlong and Hewitt who combined for the second goal with Furlong showing great skill to bring the ball down and place into the path of Hewitt who duly smashed the ball home.

The whole team was outstanding but the Door Systems U.K player of the match went to the impressive Joseph Etherington. Goal scorers for the terriers were Adam Finney 1, Sam Hewitt 1.

COLTON 1 OSSETT TOWN TIGERS 2

Tigers leave it late as Holroyd scores in stoppage time. Ossett Town Tigers u9 never seemed to get into their usual flowing style of football and played their get out of jail card to score right at the death to pick the pocket of Colton.

Tigers did create chances in the first half with Sam Holroyd just missing the target on a couple of occasions Dominic Kellet and Callum Hitchcock held it tight in defence whilst Lewis Watson and Daniel Fox worked tirelessly in midfield but were frustrated by a dogged Colton rearguard with the first half ending goalless.

Colton started the second half well and took the lead early on, this seemed to spark the Tigers into life. From the restart the Tigers attacked the Colton goal with Tyler Kahn hitting a great shot from wide out only to see it rebound off the bar.

The Tigers carried on pressing and after a few near misses Ryan Strafford netted the equaliser.

….Review of the week.

The game went to the final minute when the Tigers won a corner and Sam Holroyd scored direct from it to give the Tigers victory.

The Door Systems U.K player of the match went to hardworking Dominic Kellett.

Under 10’s

Town were unlucky to return from the trip to North Leeds with only 3 points, after two more good team performances against Leeds City.

The Terriers were involved in a close encounter, which was goalless at half-time, chances being at a premium. The Terriers started the second half
much stronger than their opponents and deservedly went ahead with a tap-in from Will Pollitt, after a great run and cross on the right from James Bree.

The Terriers dominated possession and created numerous chances with a mixture of good team play and individual play, but were undone with two counter-attacks mid-way through the half.

The Terriers continued to dominate with Will, James and Connor Rigg putting in dangerous crosses and corners, but the ball refused to go in and Leeds City held on to win 2-1.

The DJH Man Of The Match winner was James Bree for a dominant midfield display.

The Tigers ultimately enjoyed an easier time, although hard work throughout the team in the first half laid the foundations for a convincing win.

The Tigers looked dangerous throughout, with Adam Wilson and Bradley Thackray strong in defence and the excellent Luke Gothard pulling the strings in midlfield.

The Tigers were 2-0 at half-time after two great team goals starting from defence both ending with composed finishes from Tom Wilson. In the second half, the Tigers maintained the pressure, and the floodgates opened with excellent team goals from Tom (2 more), Luke (2), Adam and Jack Harrop taking the score to 8-0.

Leeds City scored a consolation with the final kick, the game finishing 8-1.

The joint winners of the ASD Man Of The Match were Tom Wilson and Luke Gothard for the 6 goals and overall team play.

Ossett Town played host to Garforth Villa, Garforth Villa started brightly and were 1 up very quickly. Ossett slowly began to get back in the game and just before half time equalised by Comet man of match Sam Harbottle.

Under 16’s

Ossett Town U16s hosted last years champions Wombwell A and turned in their best performance of the season, the return of Jamie Eyles after injury was a boost to the squad and he soon showed how important he is by putting lee Schofield through for the first after 8 minutes.

Eyles then grabbed his first of the day after 12 minutes following some good work from Brad & Luke Thompson in midfield, Ossett dominated the game with some slick one touch football, never allowing Wombwell to settle on the ball.

Brad Thompson added to the tally with his first of two and Jamie Eyles made it 4 - 0 at half time.

Ossett started the second half slowly and were punished after a clumsy challenge gave Wombwell a penalty which they converted.

Ossett then stamped their authority on the game and Brad Thompson scored from a free kick, to make it 5-1.

Impressive centre half David Newell ventured forward and scored with a peach of a shot from 30 yards,

Jamie Eyles completed the scoring with his hat trick making the final score 7 - 1 to Ossett, an excellent all round team performance.

The REMGOLD player of the match was awarded to Sean Lawson after making his 500th and final appearance for Ossett Town after 10 years service, he is now moving to Stanley United and will be sorely missed by all at Ossett Town.
