OSSETT TOWN LADIES
Towns ladies have suffered a recent string of heavy defeats though lack of players and it was again the bare eleven that faced up to the ladies from Castleford.
Since Towns girls came of age there has always been a derby spirit to their games with White Rose and this Sunday was no different.
Rose went in front from a clean strike after 11 minutes and doubled it from a corner after 18 but then Town got into the game and started to threaten down the flanks, Jody Wray in particulra giving teh opposition defence something to think about.
In the dying minutes of the first half Rose's number 10 (their best player all day) broke through on the Town goal and unleashed a fieerce shot only to see Laura Patterson dive to her right and make a strong one -handed save. This seemed to inspire Towns Ladies who came off at the turn full of belief.
Half time Ossett Town 0 White Rose 2
Ossett Town piled on the pressure to try and nick a quick one but it was a Rose break that saw the first gola of the second period, Laura saved twice only to see the ball get slammed past her after 50 mins.
The next 40 minutes were some of the most exciting seen at Springmill. Ossett began to pund the Rose defence and their centre backs coped with attack after attack until finally they had no option to swipe down Becky Woods who cracked the resultant penalty into the roof of the net. 55 mins Ossett 1 Rose 3.
Ossett continued to threaten and Keeley Dewhirst rode three scything tackles to shoot wide on the advantage while the crowd screamed for a penalty.
68 mins saw Toni Lines turn in from the left wing and spot the keeper off her line, a 25 yeard lob put Town right back in contention.
Town battled and took risks, Laura made four more fingertip saves with Rose threatening from the resultant corners but it finished Town 2 Rose 3.
There was no question that Town keeper Laura Patterson was Pattersons Opticians Player of the Match but Jody Wray deserves a mention.

Ossett Town Under 7's Pumasv Thornes Juniors (Home)
The Pumas came up against a well organised and experienced Thornes side.
Alex Jolly played the whole game in goal and made some fine saves and looked very confident.
Thornes attacked straight from the kick off and took an early lead. In defence was Dan Fletcher, Kieran Stephenson and Troy Kimmings who were excellent for the Pumas and made some fine goal stopping tackles, Thornes attacked well again in the first half and went into half time with a 2 goal lead.
Lewis Stephens, Jacob Merricks all battled well and made some good runs for the Pumas.
The second half saw the Pumas attack well with some lovely passing movements from Matthew Rogers, Oliver Spencer, Ben Fishman and Max Wilson who was flying on the wing and were unfortunate not to get a goal back.
Thornes kept the pressure on and attacked very well with a string of quick goals, making the score 7-0. But the Pumas heads did not go down and another flowing move saw Matthew Rogers have a fine shot which was saved well by the Thornes Goalkeeper who spilled the ball only for goal poacher Ben Fishman to finish with his right foot to put the Pumas on the goal sheet. The Pumas confidence grew and they played some lovely football with Max Wilson making some great runs on the wing and Ben Fishman got his second chance of the game and took it with a lovely left footed shot which hit the inside of the post and went in for the Pumas.
The final score was 8-2 and William Hall was the Man of the Match for the Pumas with a solid performace of the day.
Ossett Town Under 7's Panthers v Thornes Juniors (Home)
Scott Rankin was in goal for the Panthers and led his team from the back well, making some fine saves and was very confident.
There was some good early play from the Panthers with Ben Turner and George Ladley up front. Jamie White sustained an early injury but overcame this to make some good runs from midfield.
In defence for the Panthers was Marshall Boden, Joe McDaid and Christian Galdamez who all defended superbly in the first half to go in at half time 0-0.
Start of the second half saw Thornes on the attack and they soon took an early lead. Thornes kept the pressure on and the battling Panthers defence were beaten for a series of quick goals, the final score being 4-0.
Lewis Wardman, Jacob Nash and Ewan Broadbent all tackled well and it was a great team effort from the Panthers.
Thomas Wright was outstanding on the day, making some excellent runs in attack and also getting back for his team to help in defence and was deservedly awarded the Man of the Match.
Ossett Town Juniors Under Eights Match Reports
Football is a simple game. It relies on a variety of on the ball and off the ball skills. One of the simplest things to know, and often one of the most difficult things to perform, is the first touch. There were times when the Tigers first touch was immense allowing the team to perform to its maximum. There were other times when that all important first touch was just too difficult to get right and the goal scoring opportunities went the way of the French Rugby Union team, a shirt I will have to invest in.
Thomas McGee put in the good old fashioned wing performance. Taking them on, getting to the touch line and whipping in fearsomely dangerous crosses. Every time he got the ball you could feel something good was going to happen
The new team selection policy worked well. There were some outstanding performances with every player committing 100% to beat the spirited Gildersome side. Thomas’ rocket of a boot opened up the scoring.
On the left wing Ella Walker offered a similar attacking option as Thomas, and she put in some great passes and crosses that could have been cooked into goals.
Finlay Townend put in another good striker’s performance and sniffed his way to a second goal for the Tigers, by taking advantage of a ball that bobbled out of the keeper’s grasp. Finlay looked to put other people into space and tried several neat passing moves threading through the Gildersome defence. This was a much more mature Finlay performance which demonstrated good communication and awareness of what was happening in the match. He earned himself the title of player of the match.
Lloyd Rodgers continued where he left off last week and showed another strong reliable performance where he cooly snuffed out the Gildersome attack. He was reliably backed up by Louis Alison, who despite the heat of the Gildersome attack, kept his head clear and offered Lloyd options for passing out of danger.
Sam Allen, in goal, had little to do, but this lad with sharpest of hair cuts, remained focussed to pull off a great save, tipping the ball round for a corner.
Thomas McGee blasted home his second shortly before the interval to put the Tigers a heart warming three up.
The second half went much the same with some frenetic midfield play. One of the best moves of the match came from Connor Ryan’s accurate and deadly pass to Thomas McGee who managed to cross the ball for Finlay to shoot, but unfortunaltey over the bar.
Sam Allen and Ryan Turfrey in midfield looked good. Ryan tackled everything bravely and Sam ran at the Gildersome, hair cleanly cutting through the Highfield atmosphere, to secure two scorchers of goals. A very cool outfield performance.
Gildersome came back and there was a hot goal mouth scramble, which raised the heart rate of the travelling fans, as a consellation goal looked on the cards. Morgan Fletcher in goals coped well with the chaos and bravely stuck any part of his body that was available in defence of a clean sheet.
A lively well contested game with all the intensity of Saharan sun tempered by cool heads and cool performances.

OSSETT TOWN UNDER 10’s
Town's first home fixture of the season produced two more competitive games against Woodkirk Valley.
The Terriers started slowly against a lively Woodkirk side who took an early lead after dominating the early stages. From the mid point of the first half the Terriers midfield began to win the midfield battle with strong performances from James Bree and Connor Rigg. It was James who grabbed a deserved equaliser as the Terriers finished the half strongly. The second half was much the same with the Terriers creating chances, with a well worked goal coolly finished by Connor giving the Terriers the lead mid-way through the half. Woodkirk were always a threat and the Terriers needed a strong defensive performances to keep them out. The Terriers sealed a 3-1 win with a long range effort from James Bree with the last kick of the game. The DJH MotM award went to goalkeeper Matthew Depledge for keeping Woodkirk at bay.
The Tigers were involved in an equally close game. As with the Terriers, the Tigers started slowly and were quickly 1-0 down, and were generally guilty of some cavalier attacking, leaving too much room at the back in the early stages. In midfield it took another strong performance from Luke Gothard to finally start creating chances at the other end, and the Tigers were back on level terms after Jack Harrop collected the ball in midfield beat his marker and coolly finished. The game was evenly balanced going into the second half, but the Tigers were undone by a deflected own goal from a right wing cross. The game could still have gone either way as chances were created at both ends, but the game finished 2-1 to Woodkirk. The ASD MotM award went to Adam Wilson for a strong performance in defence, and an assist in the goal.
OSSETT TOWN U11s V CHURWELL LIONS
Ossett Town U11s played host to Churwell Lions. comet man of the match Joe Fraser scoring Ossetts first goal.Ossett missed a penatly before half time. Churwell Lions then scored 2 goals before Bradley wells made it 2-3.
Ossett Town U12’s – Garforth League (Challenge Cup)
Another unsure and uninspiring performance from Town saw them crash out of the Challenge cup against a competent, but not brilliant, Farsley side. Ossett seemed to make hard work of it today whereas Farsley simply stuck to the basics and did them well.
The writing was on the wall with an early goal to the visitors which came from a long ball through from midfield and some unmatchable pace from their attack. Campbell came out to meet the speeding train and found himself the wrong end of a brutal and painful collision. The ball span loose and was simply placed into the empty net from the edge of the area as Campbell extracted the Farsley studs from his thigh. 0-1.
Ossett nearly replied immediately as Sykes headed narrowly over the bar, but that was the closest they came to the Farsley goal for the remainder of the half, as they failed to challenge, get the ball under control or string a pass to each other. To their credit, the Ossett defence had a big job on their hands and they did it pretty well. New faces Carney and Scott complimented Moutain and Ruane and had to work hard to deal with the relentless Farsley pressure.
Farsley’s second goal was a belter. A precision pass diagonally across the field on the left into the path of their right winger and an unstoppable shot hit without breaking stride over Campbell’s head and into the far top corner.
The second half continued in the same vein as the first, scrappy football and panic and lack of composure from Town. Farsley’s third and final goal came from a rare moment of indecision from the usually safe combination of Ruane and Campbell. Another long ball from Farsley was initially being effectively shepherded by Ruane, but as he shielded the ball, Campbell stood off with neither taking control, and Farsley capitalised on the stasis with an easy tap into a vacant goal.
Towards the end, Ossett rallied a little bit, mainly from Taylor and White winning some tackles and showing enough composure to pick out a red shirt; both setting up good efforts for Daniel and Wright. And Taylor himself nearly got one back as he seized on a rare example of Farsley hesitancy at the back. Even Turfrey, alone and unused for much of the game, had no luck when the sniff of a goal bound run came his way.
So, it wasn’t to be and 0-3 it finished. A fair, but disappointing, result on performance, and a total contrast to the success of last week.
OSSETT TOWN JUNIORS UNDER 13s - GARFORTH LEAGUE
Ossett Town under 13s continued their disappointing form loosing 2 – 0 to Wortley Juniors.
Town had the better of the early exchanges, but could not capitalise on some good approach play. Wortley took full advantage to score 2 goals in the last quarter. Will Weaver took the player of the match award for an all action performance at left back.
Ossett Town U 15's 3 Shelf Juniors 2.
Ossett Town U 15's finally produced the football they are capable of in this difficult encounter with Bradford side Shelf Juniors. However it took a half-time roasting from the manager and being 2-0 down at the break, before Town finally achieved an unlikely comeback to win 3-2. The Reds fell behind midway through the first half when the visitors, under pressure from Ossett, broke out of defence to hit the home side on the break. Shelf then doubled their advantage on the half hour mark when they profited from a defensive mix up. Town began the second half with their ears ringing having had the riot act read to them and immediately responded by forcing a corner which resulted in Kessar Iqbal heading his fifth goal of the season. Ossett then forced the pace even more and on 60 mins Shelf conceded a penalty which Reds striker Tom Young stepped up to take, only to see his effort saved by the keeper, however Young was quickest to react rifling home the rebound. By this time Ossett Town had Shelf on the rack and were rewarded when Town captain Dom Auty volleyed the winner after a goal mouth scramble. Every Ossett player deserves great credit for their performances but none more so than new signing David Hawley who took the " Its Simple Trophies " Player of the Match honours.
