A TALE OF TWO HALVES
Man of the match: Martin Preston
On this cold and blustery Sunday afternoon both teams took a while to warm up. Ossett were finding it hard to adapt to the small pitch and Dalton kept piling on the pressure with the through ball constantly being met by 4 to 5 attackers and Ossett’s defense failing to get back leaving keeper Hall to pull off some excellent saves.
On the odd occasions Ossett attacked Liam Preston looked the most likely to score.
It was only a matter of time until Dalton managed to find the net and within 10 minutes Town found themselves 3-0 behind.
Ossett now began to get into the game with the two wingers Potter and Horsfall battling hard and White trying to put the strikers of Preston and Rogers through but to no avail and at the half time whistle Town found themselves 4-0 behind.
The second half started with Ossett Town now battling hard to try and get onto the score sheet.
The Dalton keeper now had to work hard pulling off some excellent saves from Scott and White and a screamer of a shot from Awad.
The counter attacks from Dalton saw the defense of M Preston and Briggs now in form and battling hard to stop any further goals being conceded.
With Ossett now using the wingers a good through ball by Dann saw White run onto the ball and saw his shot turned into the goal by the Unfortunate Dalton defender.
Ossett now through everything at the Dalton defense but were unable to score there second goal, and towards the end as gaps appeared Dalton got there fifth.
This result shows that we have to be more competitive for the entire match, we have to be first to the ball and be as aggressive as the opposition.
If we can achieve this we will begin to pick up points.
There were some good individual performances by man of the match M Preston, the ever-battling Briggs and Horsfall and an excellent effort from keeper Hall who kept the score from being a lot worse.
Ossett Town Juniors Under Eights Match Reports
Lions 6 – Durkar Devils 3
Even the fridge got wrapped up for this one. You could not tell how cold it was as the Lions got underway. Like Poseidon breaking through a salt sea ice, they shrugged off the icicles, de-frosted their beards and went on passing their way to goals. Liam Finney, as his reputation for corner building suggests, took the corner for Geraint Evans to shoot. The shot was partially cleared, for the eager Thomas McGee whose strike caused a rebound for Thomas Coe to sniff one.
Liam Finney was the next on the score sheet as he got on the right end of a Durkar clearance. The shot was sweet as a nut, and was helped on by a Devil’s foot. Liam was back for extras as he played a blinding one two with Thomas Mcgee to place a powerful righter into the Durkar net.
In defence Elliot Hewitt was immense:- reliable and composed feeding the Lions attack and snuffling out the Devil’s attacks.
Callam Towey’s debut was something to be proud of. His first touch was a crunching midfield tackle which set up Liam Finney for a superb cross.
Durkar were good on the break and had an outstanding striker who kept splitting our defence. Sam Allen’s first piece of action, as the Durkar striker came through, resulted in a calming and settling save.
Thomas Coe’s wing work was immense throughout the game, and with Liam Finney on the wing they provided plenty of nutrition for the Lions strike force. Geraint Evans was the benefactor of such dangerous crossing enabling him to claim two goals. He was unlucky not to have a third as he robbed the Devils at the kick off and spagehttied his way to the goal, to be robbed by a great save by the Durkar keeper.
Durkar kept themselves in the game as they split the defence again and bet brave Sam Allen.
In the second half Durkar hit back, and hit back hard with two goals won on the break. Lions played some good football with Louis Allison keeping up his fine tackling and passing performances but also having a great strike on goal. Lloyd Rodgers, once again excelled at putting the last minute tackle in to save the day. However, at 5-3 and mounting Durkar pressure it looked as though the Lions would quake.
However, the perseverance of the Lions saw them heave pressure back on Durkar and Thomas McGee scored a goal from within 3 yards, very strange.
The match ended with the Lions dominant as they took a free kick against the Durkar goal and the final whistle went.

Some good solid defending from Ossett’s back four laid the foundations for Ossett’s best result of the season so far. Good link up play between midfield and strike force lead to Ossett being awarded a penalty just before half time. Carleton’s keeper made a good save but was unable to keep hold of the ball and good follow up play from Alistair Williams lead to the first goal. Ossett continued to play well in the second half and were rewarded with further goals from Kyle Kenningley, James Cusworth and two from George Proud. M.O.M honours went to Alistair Williams.
OSSETT TOWN REDS U16’s
BLACKBURN CUP 2nd ROUND
Ossett Town Reds progressed into the next round of the Blackburn Cup and kept their first clean sheet of the season, defeating Mount Pleasant Juniors 2 – 0. Ossett were always on top in the game but it was deep into the second half before they finally broke through, kept out mainly by the Mount Pleasant goalkeeper who made a number of saves.
Ossett were unfortunate not to take the lead after 9 minutes when Shaun Joy saw his shot tipped onto the crossbar by the goalkeeper, the ball actually rolling along the bar before finally going out for a corner.
After 18 minutes Ossett goalkeeper Carl Widdrington made an excellent save to turn a shot round the post, after a short corner caught out the defence. The resultant corner was defended much better by Ossett and from the break the ball eventually reached Joe Madarasi in behind the Mount Pleasant defence, his low shot beat the diving goalkeeper but struck the inside of the post and rebounded straight into the prone keepers hands.
Just before half time Madarasi was denied again, after being released by an excellent ball from Georgie Tate the goalkeeper this time tipped the shot over the bar.
Half Time: - Mount Pleasant Juniors 0 v Ossett Town Reds 0
Mount Pleasant made a good start to the second half after Ossett lost the foothold in midfield they had enjoyed in the first half. An early free kick however was the best chance Mount Pleasant had to find a goal, but the direct shot went harmlessly over the bar.
After 55 minutes Ossett were reduced to 10 men when centre forward Josh Hardy was dismissed following an off the ball incident. However Mount Pleasant were never able to capitalize on their numerical advantage and in fact the remaining Ossett players raised their game and were able to keep the opposition under continued pressure.
Eventually after 66 minutes the break through came. Michael Liversidge lifted the ball over the Mount Pleasant defence; Josh Ellis just beat the advancing goalkeeper to the ball and managed to head it into the path of Ross Hardaker who slotted into the net despite the attention of retreating defenders.
4 minutes later the victory was sealed when Georgie Tate was brought down inside the penalty box, Phil Williams stepped up to calmly convert the spot kick.

Sun 18 Nov - Under 10’s
Not so much a game of two halves, but a fixture of two halves, with contrasting fortunes for the two teams aaginst Yorkshire Amateurs, who were 2nd in the league prior to kick-off.
The Terriers put in arguably their most accomplished performance against a side who had plenty of pace all over the pitch. Once the game settled doen after a fast start, the Terriers started to create chances and were soon 1-0 with a low hard drive from James Bree from the edge of the box that left the keeper with no chance. At 1-0 up the Terriers then dominated with chances for Will Pollitt, Connor Rigg and James again. Into the second half, the game continued to be largely one way traffic. The pace of the opposition always looked a threat with out really materialising. The second goal finally came when Connor Rigg ran down the wing and crossed for Will Pollitt to head home. The DJH MotM went to Will Pollitt for his endless running that put the opposition defence under pressure throughout the game.
The Tigers will hope this was just one of those days, but the scoreline doesn;t really tell the whole story. Another sluggish start against a team that played with pace and moved the ball well had the Tigers looking ragged in the first 15 minutes. They aided their own downfall with some sloppy defending and were 3-0 down after 10 minutes. For 10 minutes either side of half time the Tigers woke up and started to win some tackles and play some good football. They pulled a goal back through Frazer Ellis with a shot from the edge of the area just before the break, and threatened to get back into the game early in the second half with some pressure. The good work was undone with a 4th goal for the opposition and the Tigers' heads went down, with a further 5 goals being scored in the last 10 minutes. The ASD MotM went to Tom Wilson for his tireless running up front where he always looked a threat.
OSSETT TOWN U11 V BRAMLEY PHOENIX
Ossett Town U11s played host to Bramley Phoenix and were hoping to continue their unbeaten streak of 5wins. It was an even game in the first half, the only difference was Ossetts Comet man of the match Ryan Kellet who scored the opening goal.
Half time 1-0.
It was much the same in the second half. Bradley Wells scored twice for Ossett. With Bramley getting 2 back. A great line clearance by Joe Newman kept Ossett on their winning ways.
Full time score 3-2. |
