20th & 21st October 2007
A lovely sunny morning saw a great end to end game between these two local rivals.
Oliver Spencer played the first half in goal for the Pumas, with Ben Fishman taking over in the second. Albion attacked straight from the kick off and took an early lead with a fine shot. Pumas had William Hall, Dan Fletcher and Marshall Boden in defence who did their best to keep Albion at bay, but Albion attacked well again and made the score 2-0, with a third goal and a completed hatrick coming soon after for Albion.
However, the Pumas battled well, their heads didn't go down and their team spirit was a credit to each and every one of them. There was some lovely football played by all the team, especially good link up play between Max Wilson, Troy Kimmings and Matthew Rogers.
Another flowing move and the Pumas were awarded with a well deserved goal, a lovely run from Max Wilson who passed to Ben Fishman who badgered the Albion goalkeeper who spilled the ball for Matthew Rogers to follow in and put the Pumas on the score sheet, making the half time score 3-1.
Second half saw a change in the goal. Oliver Spencer, Joe McDaid, Troy Kimmings and Matthew Rogers made some fine runs and the Pumas pressure paid off with a fine taken goal from Oliver Spencer who celebrated with his trademark cartwheel, making the score 3-2 to Albion.
It really was end to end football from both teams and the crowd really got behind both teams.
Albion broke away again and scored their fourth goal of the game, only for the Pumas to attack well with a great solo run from Max Wilson who was cool as a cucumber and scored a great goal, resulting in the final score 4-3 to Albion.
Matthew Rogers was the Man of the Match for the Pumas with an all round solid performace for the team.
Ossett Town Under 7's Panthers v Ossett Albion (Away.
A lovely sunny Autumn morning saw the Panthers play some great team football.
Ewan Broadbent started the game in goal and the Panthers attacked well from the kick off with some fine passing football from Jamie White, Christian Gladamez and Thomas Wright, with the Panthers having the first few chances of the game which fell to Jamie White and Kieran Stephenson.
Scott Rankin, Jacob Nash and Lewis Stephenson were solid in defence for the Panthers and all tackled well for their team.
Albion came into the game and took a 1-0 lead with a fine shot, which was soon to become 2-0 just before half time.
Scott Rankin went in goal in the second half for the Panthers and made some fine saves for his team and really looked comfortable.
There was some good early second half play from the Panthers with Jacob Nash, Harry Graves, Kieran Stephenson and Jamie White all making good runs and passing well between them.
Albion extended their lead to 3-0 soon after half time, with a fourth goal following not long after but the Panthers kept on battling well and a great shot from Kieran Stephenson put the Panthers on the score sheet. The Panthers took confidence from this and played some good attacking football with Ewan Broadbent and Christian Galdamez putting the Albion defence under pressure and another fine goal for Ewan Broadbent made the final score 4-2 to Albion.
Lewis Wardman, Thomas Wright and Lewis Stephenson all tackled well for the Panthers.
Kieran Stephenson never stopped running for the Panthers and got on the score sheet with a fine taken goal and was deservedly awarded the Man of the Match.
Ossett Town Juniors Under Eights Match Reports
You can never have something good, beautiful and righteous without the yang of the yin of bad, ugly and malevolent. A great man of the match performance from Elliot Hewitt, who covered every blade of grass, on this rather large pitch. His performance was good, beautiful and righteous, but his boot hid a double blister: the bad, the ugly and malevolent. Majestic performance, where Elliot could easily say “Get out Clint, wrong film, wrong set; this is Ossett!”
Timekeeping by Lee van Kleef allowed the ticking and the tocking on this beautiful Sunday morning to be split into two 15 minute halves; causing Albion to score one in each half and the Lions 3 in each half, this the day of the 21st October. Numerologists and accountants will note the predominance of the number 3 in this game. Make what you will.
The game started with a pair of Michael Owen strike force look a likes up front in the shape of Liam Finney and Finlay Townend. Good running from these two kept up the early Lion’s pressure as Thomas Coe provided a decisive defensive performance. His best move amongst several outstanding efforts was when he turned a menacing attaker , “Alec Lindsay – like”, then brought the ball round a couple, and set up ball for the workhorses of the midfield, Elliot and Geraint. Geraint was able to open up the scoring with a goal that found the benefit of a deflection helpful.
The limpet like grip the Lion’s had on the match was immediately released and Albion made the most of their first serious attack and equalised. The Lions were determined and replied immediately. We were entering gun slinging territory, and Elliot Hewitt, managed to dive behind horse watering troughs, out of saloon bar windows, jump from the first floor onto his horse. He was everywhere. The gun fight continued and Connor Ryan stepped up to perform a classic role. He was like a rugby union fly half, in the mould of Bennett and John (alright then Johnny Wilkinson). Connor cleared his lines well, took on men when he had to, and tackled cleanly and strongly for the benefit of the Lions effort. His best performance of the season helped Ossett to rid itself of outlaws, “with all that lynching an’ all.”
Connor’s tackling helped Geraint Evans put the cross over for Thomas Coe, to use his first touches as a striker, to start a bank robbery of his own. A similar move allowed Finlay Townend to rob the train and let the Lions turn round in front.
Let us not forget, the first half performance of Ella Walker who brought a brand of goalkeeping reserved for much older players. She let the ball go dead, handled well, communicated with the defence and kicked some precision balls to her team mates in space.
Liam Finney’s match built up as it went along and his passing, dribbling and battling were second to none. He took the ball up wings, through the middle and supported and helped his team mates. A great performance; again! But against the run of play Albion were the first to score in the second half.
The Lions carried on, Ryan Turfrey in defence helped steady the ship as he put in the strong tackles and made some fine passes out of danger to his own players. Ryan’s positional awareness rubbed off on the team, and the Lions became more organised, less dependent on individual performances.
Ella Walker, now striking on the left hand side was set up by a superlative Elliot Hewitt pass, and she thundered home a margin extending strike.
There was still time for a lull in the gunfighting, as we went to the big speech, meaning, and sacrifice speech bit, and everyone stared. Enzo Maricone music, or sommat like that, played, and the Lions came back all Colts and Gattling guns blazing. It seemed everyone came close to scoring, and eventually Liam Finney fired the last volley and brought the Lions total to 6.
After the gun fight between members of the same clan, all players must remember that if they get a blister, or a double blister on their feet or toes, do not eat salt and vinegar crisps for a while.

OSSETT TOWN REDS U16’s
Date: - 21st October 2007 - Kick Off: - 1:30p.m.
Ossett Town Reds progressed comfortably into the next round of the Blackburn Cup by defeating Thornhill Juniors by the convincing margin of 10 – 1. Ossett completely dominated the game from the outset and the margin of victory could have been more but for the Thornhill goalkeeper who surely must have been their man of the match producing a string of excellent saves.
Despite being under constant pressure Thornhill managed to defend their goal until the 19th minute and during this period took the lead in the game when after 8 minutes the Ossett defence failed to deal with a long punt from the Thornhill goalkeeper, allowing the striker in behind them to finish confidently.
It was one-way traffic after this and Ossett equalized after 19 minutes when Ross Hardaker scored the first of his four goals volleying home from Michael Liversidge’s long throw in.
Thornhill held on until 10 minutes before half time before falling behind to a Georgie Tate goal and Ossett found two more goals before the break, when after 35 minutes Phil Williams back headed a Scott Archer free kick into the net and then after 39 minutes when Josh Ellis headed in when left unmarked from a corner.
Half Time: - Thornhill Juniors 1 v Ossett Town Reds 4
Ossett made a fast start to the second half and having already missed an excellent opportunity extended their lead inside the 1st minute when Joe Madarasi scored.
After 51 minutes Ross Hardaker scored his second and probably best of his four goals when unmarked just inside the penalty box he brought down a Josh Hardy cross on his chest and then volleyed into the Thornhill net.
A rare goal from full back Ryan Grint curling the ball into the net from distance after 57 minutes was followed four minutes later by a route one goal when Josh Hardy needed a couple of touches on Ossett goalkeeper Carl Widdrington’s long clearance before forcing the ball under the Thornhill keeper.
Ross Hardaker then completed the scoring to take Ossett into double figures with goals after 67 and 72 minutes.
